We extend our congratulations to all the winners and finalists of this year’s competition. Elzaburu is also pleased to note that two of the projects recognized in the competition involved professionals from our firm, who contributed their legal analysis to provide context for some of the issues addressed in the reports.

In the award-winning article“A Network of Informants and Lawyers: How CrossFit Pursues Gyms That Use Its Trademark Without Permission,” Carlos Morán, a partner in the Legal Department at Elzaburu, analyzed the increase in cases of misuse of the CrossFit trademark and explained the legal strategies used to protect a registered trademark against such unauthorized use.

Likewise, the finalist article “TikTok, ‘brainrot,’ and Trademarks: the legal odyssey of a successful phenomenon with no recognized author,” incorporated the perspective of Enrique Jacobo, a junior associate in the firm’s Trademark practice, who shed light on some of the legal issues that arose around the Brainrot phenomenon, such as identifying the author of a creation, ownership of rights, and potential conflicts arising from the use of third-party elements.

Elzaburu and Its Commitment to Raising Awareness About Industrial Property

These types of initiatives also help raise awareness of the importance of these rights in areas such as innovation, the digital economy, and the fight against counterfeiting.
