Madrid, May 26, 2022.- Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, a partner at ELZABURU, participated alongside Manolo Mínguez, director of Elzaburu’s Valencia office, and Paloma Querol, an associate attorney at that office, in a conference organized by the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, which was also attended by its president, José Vicente Morata. The event examined the potential legal implications of the metaverse and NFTs for businesses and consumers.
One of the conclusions was that Europe can play an important role in the legal aspects of the metaverse.“Any data economy developed within the European framework and for Europeans must respect the principles of consumer protection, data protection, and competition law,” said Fernández-Lasquetty at today’s conference held at the Valencia Chamber of Commerce to analyze the business environment in the metaverse and NFTs.
Fernández-Lasquetty recalled the definition of the metaverse: persistent, real-time virtual environments that are interconnected, simulate reality, and offer experiences. The conference highlighted the questions raised by businesses in this environment, ranging from data management issues to ethical dilemmas regarding the information that new technologies provide about consumers.
