Following an extensive professional career dedicated to the development of industrial and intellectual property in Spain and the international evolution of the sector, ELZABURU has named Jesús Gómez Montero an Honorary Partner in recognition of his contribution to the firm over more than two decades and his role as a leading figure in the legal field of intangible assets.
Before joining ELZABURU, he had a distinguished career in the public sector as a legal advisor at the Industrial Property Registry (now the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office), where he played an active role in adapting Spanish regulations to European standards and contributed to key legislative initiatives such as the 1986 Patent Act, the 1988 Trademark Act, and the 1988 Act on the Legal Protection of Semiconductor Products.
During this period, he served on working groups at the European Union, the European Patent Office, and the World Intellectual Property Organization, participating in processes such as the Trademark Directive, the Community Trademark Regulation, the reform of the Munich Convention on the European Patent, and the Protocol to the Madrid Agreement. He also served as an expert on programs to modernize industrial property offices in Ibero-American countries.
He joined ELZABURU in 1995, was named a partner in 1996, and worked there until 2019, focusing primarily on the area of trademarks and the strategic management of national and international portfolios, including those of Mapfre, Banco Santander, Almirall, Mirto, and the Royal Household, among others. He also served as Head of the International Division.
At the same time, he has been deeply involved in academic and educational work, with a long career teaching Advertising Law at the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as holding leadership roles within ELZABURU as chair of the Training Committee and a member of the Editorial Committee, where he has promoted continuing education and participation in international legal publications. He is currently a member of the Academic Committee of the Ibero-American Journal of Intellectual Property.
