Madrid, February 24, 2026.—The Professional Partners Committee has agreed to appoint Jesús Gómez Montero as an Honorary Partner of Elzaburu in recognition of his exemplary professional career in the field of industrial and intellectual property and his close association with the firm for more than twenty-four years.

Jesús holds a law degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela. In 1980, he joined the corps of attorneys at the Industrial Property Registry—now the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM)—after passing a competitive examination, where he actively participated in the legislative process that brought Spanish industrial property regulations into line with European standards. During his tenure, he contributed to key initiatives such as the 1986 Patent Act, the 1988 Trademark Act, and the 1988 Act on the Legal Protection of Semiconductor Products.

He also participated in working groups within the European Union, the European Patent Office (EPO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including processes such as the Trademark Directive, the Community Trademark Regulation, the reform of the Munich Convention on the European Patent, and the Protocol to the Madrid Agreement. As a WIPO expert, he also collaborated on projects to modernize industrial property offices in various Latin American countries.

In 1995, he joined ELZABURU, where he was named a partner in 1996, and worked there until 2019. His primary focus was on trademark law, managing strategic portfolios for national and international companies such as Almirall, Mirto, Mapfre, Banco Santander, Campofrío, Artiach, 3M, Audi, and Nabisco, as well as institutions such as the Royal Household. Within the firm, he also served as Head of the International Division, maintaining ongoing relationships with colleagues around the world and actively participating in international conferences.

At the same time, he was deeply involved in academic and educational work. From 1981 to 2017, he was a professor of advertising law at the School of Information Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid. At ELZABURU, he chaired the Training Committee and served on the Editorial Committee, promoting continuing education for professionals and coordinating the firm’s participation in international legal publications. He was also an active member of professional associations such as AIPPI, ASIPI, INTA, and ECTA.

He is currently a member of the Academic Committee of the Revista Iberoamericana de la Propiedad Intelectual, is registered with the Madrid Bar Association as a non-practicing attorney, and serves as secretary of Juristas Gallegos in Madrid (IURISGAMA).

According to Alfonso Diez de Rivera,“Jesús Gómez Montero is a national and international leader in the field of industrial and intellectual property. Throughout his career, he has both witnessed and played a leading role in many of the key decisions that have shaped the current regulatory framework and the legal ecosystem governing our industry.”

Mabel Klimt:“Jesús has contributed his experience, his rigor, and his professional expertise to make Elzaburu one of Europe’s leading firms in the protection of intangible assets today. His extraordinary commitment, generosity, and knowledge have left an indelible mark on the firm. We are truly proud to have him as an honorary partner and to continue having the privilege of receiving his advice and support in this new phase.”
