Antonio Castán

After more than 35 years of litigation experience in industrial and intellectual property and 25 years as a partner at Elzaburu, we have named Antonio Castán an Honorary Partner in recognition of his career and his contribution to the development of the litigation practice.

His professional career, which has always focused on litigation in the areas of industrial and intellectual property, has been marked by success. Over the past several decades, he has worked alongside his team on high-profile cases for rights holders across a wide range of fields, from characters and works of popular culture—such as Tarzan and The Simpsons—to international brands and literary authors like Chesterton, as well as sports figures such as Zinedine Zidane. In addition, he has participated in complex litigation before Spanish courts in areas such as copyright, trademarks, and patents.

Antonio was also a professor at Comillas Pontifical University and the author of numerous publications. Among them are the books *Plagiarism and Other Studies in Intellectual Property*, *Intellectual Property and Poetry*, *Patents in the Digital Ecosystem and Other Studies on Industrial Property*, *Albert Camus in the Light of Copyright Law*, and, in 2026, *Borges in the Light of Copyright Law*.

Although he held prominent positions in national and international legal rankings, Antonio has always emphasized that his greatest source of pride has been the team of attorneys who joined ELZABURU’s Legal Department, to whom he sought to instill a commitment to client service, loyalty toward adversaries, good faith in litigation, and intellectual and personal humility.

As he himself wrote: “In industrial and intellectual property, there is always more to learn than there is to teach.”
